This year’s Congress of the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) in Gdańsk brought together international experts again to discuss current developments in hypertension diagnostics and therapy. A central topic in many scientific contributions was one that is gaining increasing importance in modern blood pressure diagnostics: nocturnal blood pressure and the so-called non-dipping behavior.
With our patented continuous, non-invasive blood pressure measurement, we support especially in this area of cardiovascular diagnostics. In addition to the SOMNOtouchTM NIBP and SOMNOtouchTM RESP with ECG extension, we also presented our ABPMpro as a solution for long-term blood pressure monitoring. The aim is to highlight the links between respiratory events (especially at night) and hypertension to identify the associated risks earlier.
Evening scientific exchange
A particular highlight was the evening event with the renowned speaker Prof. Dr. Gianfranco Parati (Milan). As one of the world’s leading experts in hypertension and co-author of the current ESH position paper on nocturnal blood pressure, he, together with Dr. Gert Küchler (Randersacker) and Dr. Tomas-Lucca Bothe (Research Associate, University of Sydney, School of Health and Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health), illuminated the clinical importance of nocturnal blood pressure patterns and their impact on patient risk stratification.
The talks underscored in a powerful way that focusing solely on clinic blood pressure values is often not sufficient. Only the analysis of the 24-hour profile enables the identification of non-dippers and thus provides important guidance for diagnostics and therapeutic decisions.
We thank all attendees for the engaging conversations in Gdańsk and look forward to further advancing scientific exchange around ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, nocturnal hypertension, and non-dipping.
